The Baking Lab

Sweet Science in Action

What is The Baking Lab?

Sweet Science in Action

The Baking Lab is an educational baking experience that blends food science, curiosity, and hands-on learning through sweet treats. Each lab explores how techniques and variables affect real baking outcomes, using familiar foods as a way to make the science approachable and engaging.

Every Baking Lab includes guided instruction, food science explained in common language, and edible samples that support observation and comparison. The focus is not just on the final product, but on understanding the process behind it because the process matters, even when it’s sweet.

Whether you’re exploring a single treat or comparing multiple treats, The Baking Lab invites you to slow down, observe, and enjoy learning through food.

What’s Included in the Education?

All Baking Labs include science-explained lessons designed to make the “why” behind baking techniques clear and approachable.

Your Sweet Science Companion includes:

  • Guided baking lesson with clear explanations

  • Food science concepts explained in plain language

  • Lab context that connects technique to outcome

  • Instructional framing for observing and comparing results

Important Note:
All Baking Lab orders include instruction and lab context. Edible lab samples are part of the learning experience and cannot be sold separately.

Choose Your Lab Format

Single Treat Lab

  • Focuses on one treat type and one core baking science concept.

  • Supports focused observation of how a single technique affects outcome.

Two-Treat Comparison Lab

  • Compares how the same technique behaves across two different treats.

  • Supports observation of differences in texture, surface, and structure

Multi-Treat Exploration Lab

  • Explores baking science across three or more treat types in one experience.

  • Supports broader observation by comparing how the same technique performs across multiple treat types.

Optional Lab Sample Expansion

Many customers enjoy the edible results of our labs. Additional lab samples may be added to support repetition, observation, and comparison of the technique explored.

Sample Expansion Options

All sample expansions are tied directly to the lab instruction and are designed to support observation and comparison, not standalone purchase. Sample quantities are listed in baker’s dozens (13 pieces per dozen).

Standard Lab Sample

Provides additional lab samples in smaller baker’s dozen sets for focused observation and side-by-side comparison of results.

Classroom/Event Lab Sample

Provides a larger set of lab samples in baker’s dozen quantities for extended observation, demonstration, and repeated comparison of the lab technique.
