Dr. Woolfork tutoring students in chemistry

Hi, I’m Dr. Woolfork!

I work directly with diverse student bodies in the subjects of general chemistry, algebra, geometry, and precalculus. Founding GEMS Vault Tutoring Services has provided me with the opportunity to provide academic support for students who need remediation and/or enrichment for the above subjects.

Proud Alumni of Rutgers University and University of Nebraska - Lincoln

I earned my Bachelor’s in Chemistry in 2016 and my Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry with a minor in College STEM Education from the University of Nebraska – Lincoln in 2021. As a first-generation college student, I understand the challenges that presents with being successful in STEM courses. I have been teaching for about 10 years and have always aspired to be an educator. I began informally teaching in high school as a tutor for middle school math. During my time at Rutgers University, I worked with high school students in college prep courses and eventually became an instructor for General Chemistry. At the University of Nebraska – Lincoln, I continued working one-on-one and in small groups with students to help them change their trajectory and to reach their potential in general math and science courses.

My Goal as Your Tutor

My number one goal as an instructor is to effectively communicate the subject in a relatable way and to create an atmosphere that is conducive to the many types of learning for understanding: learning for acquisition, learning for meaning making, and learning for transfer styles. I serve as a coach in which I train, observe, and offer feedback to students to help them develop their academic abilities and maximize their investment in their education.

“Ashley and I had a review session for chemistry, and it helped me understand some concepts I was a little shaky with. It also helped me remember a ton of things I’d forgotten that would definitely be necessary to know for my final. I feel way more confident now compared to before.”
